About Citizens Advice East Devon
A Local Charity for Our Community Citizens Advice East Devon is an independent local charity providing free, independent and confidential advice across East Devon. We have offices in Exmouth, Honiton and Seaton and outreaches in Sidmouth and Axminster. In these locations we provide face-to-face sessions for members of the public to talk through their problems with trained advisers, most of whom are volunteers from the local community. We are also part of Adviceline Devon, a county-wide telephone advice service. Last year we helped over 5,000 local people to access the help they needed, dealing with over 12,500 issues which cover a broad spectrum of advice needs. The vast majority of this help was provided by our 70-strong team of dedicated volunteer advisers and assessors, without whom we could not run the service. As well as dealing with queries for individuals, we also campaign for changes in law and policy where we can see a need evidenced through our work with clients. In this we support work by Citizens Advice nationally and by other voluntary organisations. Where we can, we try to partner with other organisations to achieve the best service for people in East Devon. We are regulated by Citizens Advice nationally, which ensures the quality of advice and the service we provide to the East Devon community. As a local charity, we are entirely dependent on grants and donations so that our service can continue. And of course, our service could not run without our volunteers, who support the charity in a number of different roles and give freely and generously of their time. Our Service in Numbers In 2018-19 we helped 4,500 people with issues and problems 4 in 10 of the clients we help have a long-term health condition In 2019-20 we will help clients achieve income gains of £2.5 million
