Citizens Electric Corporation was formed in 1947 after Genevieve Electric Cooperative acquired all of the property of Missouri General Utilities Company which was providing power to Perry, Ste. Genevieve, and Northern Cape Girardeau Counties. The company is a member of the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives and one of 23 member-owners of Wabash Valley Power Alliance. CEC is also a Touchstone electric cooperative and a member of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
