About City Atlas
We developed a cooperative game to teach anyone in the US, and then around the world, how to solve climate change with accurate, updatable info: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/21/nyregion/earth-day-energetic-game.html Our game for NYC is now used in classes at Harvard, Brown, Vanderbilt, Carnegie Mellon, and Bronx Science. We're working to make it accessible to all NYC public high schools and replicate it in versions for other cities. Climate change is a crisis that involves everyone, but where few people feel they have any influence or ability to change unstoppable events; working as a team on solutions matched to the real world brings more people into engagement and changes the politics. https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/environment/2023/05/17/board-game-teaching-students-to-decarbonize-new-york-city https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2023/10/Players-of-this-board-game-explore-how-to-power-New-York-City-on-clean-energy/ newyork.thecityatlas.org City Atlas is a public-facing project about the future of New York City, founded in 2011 with a Cultural Innovation Fund Award from the Rockefeller Foundation. City Atlas is built and operated by Artist As Citizen, Inc., a 501(c)3 corporation, under the guidance of the Institute for Sustainable Cities at Hunter College. The mission of City Atlas is to help New Yorkers understand and prepare for the future of the city, as described in the reports of New York City Panel on Climate Change (NPCC), the IPCC, and C40.org, and to strengthen the democratic process towards equitable responses to climate change.
