About City of East Ridge
The City of East Ridge, Tennessee, was incorporated under a Private Act of the Tennessee General Assembly in 1921. East Ridge, Tennessee is located in Hamilton County in the south central part of the State on the Georgia and Tennessee border. Immediately adjacent to Chattanooga, its sister city, East Ridge enjoys multiple points of access to the region’s extensive network of major highways and interstates, bordering the intersection of Interstates I-75 and I-24. According to the 2013 Census Bureau estimate, the County had an estimated population of approximately 348,673 and East Ridge, a population of 21,382. East Ridge has been designated by the State of Tennessee as a “Main Street USA” and a “Three Star City” by the State Department of Economic and Community Development. East Ridge is a part of the Chattanooga, TN-GA Metropolitan Statistical Area, (the "Area" or the "MSA") as designated by the US Census Bureau, which includes Hamilton (Chattanooga, East Ridge, Collegedale, Red Bank and Soddy-Daisy), Marion (Jasper, Kimball, South Pittsburg and Whitwell), Sequatchie (Dunlap) counties and part of North Georgia. The 2013 Census Bureau estimate for the Chattanooga MSA shows a population of 541,744. The City operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The City Manager serves as the City’s Chief Executive Officer and oversees the operation of all City departments. The City’s legislative body, the City Council, is composed of the Mayor and four Council members, all elected at-large to staggered, four year terms. The City provides a full range of municipal services including, but not limited to, fire and police protection; sanitation services; construction and maintenance of highways, streets and infrastructure; recreation and cultural activities including public library services; economic and community development; GIS, planning and zoning; codes enforcement, animal services, and general administrative services.
