About City of Farmersville
Farmersville, Texas, located in Collin County, about 35 miles Northeast of Dallas, is a great place to live, to work, or to do business! We are just big enough to provide the perfect lifestyle, just small enough to provide a safe, quiet refuge from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. We invite you to come visit our historic town, shop at our quaint antique and specialty shops, and see why Farmersville is the perfect place for your business and your family. Farmersville originated in 1849 as a settlement on the Jefferson-McKinney Road, and near Republic of Texas National Road. It was named by the pioneers for their chief occupation. After 1854, the Yearys and their neighbors of Sugar Hill (2 mi. NE) began relocating here. Dr. H.M. Markham, practicing here by 1855, is said to have been Collin County’s earliest physician. The First Methodist Church was organized in 1856. The public square was dedicated on March 4, 1859, on land donated by William Gotcher. A school was operating as early as the 1860's. The First Baptist Church was organized on May 14, 1865. The town was incorporated on June 2, 1873. The first mayor was John S. Rike, and the first Aldermen were James Church, Ben King, John Murchison, Tom Tatum, and John P. Utt. The first Marshall was Jeff Hines. Institutions of 1880's still in operation include The Farmersville Times, First Bank, and McCraw's Candies. The Farmersville Warrant Officer Program was initiated in November 2008. Warrants have been successfully executed to recover funds from delinquent citations.
