About City of North Plains
North Plains, Oregon is a small, semi-rural city of just over 3,400 residents located 17 miles west of Downtown Portland. Formerly known as Glencoe, the community has existed for over 100 years. Our growth over the years has maintained a small-town atmosphere where residents enjoy the benefits of the well-managed infrastructure of improved streets, parks, and water systems, as well as easy access to major employers, recreation, entertainment, and nature. Located in the heart of Oregon’s Silicon Forest, North Plains is part of a thriving tech scene and is within a short drive to the Portland metro area’s larger cities. Our residents have access to jobs at multinational employers such as Intel, Genentech, and Nike, along with diverse industries including education, healthcare, agriculture, and craft beer brewing. Oregon Canadian and Jewett Cameron are two of North Plains’ larger employers. The City of North Plains, along with its community partners the North Plains Events Association and the North Plains Chamber of Commerce are resuming many events our community loves and is known for, including our world-famous North Plains Elephant Garlic Festival the second week of August and an annual Fourth of July Celebration. The City has also sponsored concerts in the park and provides library programs for kids and adults, and activities at the North Plains Senior Center. North Plains has developed a number of small parks throughout town, and the 1-mile Ghost Creek Walking Path with opportunities to view wildlife was also recently completed. Expanding park areas and walking trails is a high priority for the community. We are also perfectly located to provide access to a wide range of entertainment and recreation. Bike riders can be seen on the rural roads in and around our community every day, rain or shine. The City partners with Ride with GPS to offer Cycling route planning to residents and visitors.
