About Clackamas County Historical Society
The Clackamas County Historical Society (CCHS), Oregon City, OR., is a nonprofit regional educational institution dedicated to providing historical information and maintaining two museum buildings (Museum of the Oregon Territory and the Stevens Crawford House) with ongoing and special occasion exhibits. Clackamas County, established in 1843, derives its name from the Clackamas Indians, a Native American group that is part of the Chinookan people who fished and hunted in this area for centuries before Lewis and Clark explored the region in the early 1800s.Since 1952, Clackamas County Historical Society (CCHS) has served as the steward of Oregon's early history. In addition to the Museum of the Oregon Territory, CCHS also houses the Family History Society and cares for the historic Stevens-Crawford House, the home of Oregon's founding legacies. The museum's third-floor Tumwater Room, with a 360-degree view of the historic Willamette Falls, also is available for private events.
