About Clean Up Bristol Harbour
Clean Up Bristol Harbour is a not-for-profit volunteering scheme that brings volunteers together, helping to clear the Bristol Harbour area of litter in and around the water. It was started in 2016 by Chloe Juyon who was a member of a local rowing club. Witnessing the rubbish in the harbour first hand inspired her to start arranging monthly litter picking events in conjunction with the Harbour Office, with Bristol Ferries becoming involved with their own volunteering programme adding to the numbers. The Ferries donate the services of a skipper and boat for the litter pick when possible, free of charge. We encourage other boat users in the harbour to get involved. In Summer 2017, John Peters-Coleman joined. In 2019 Clean Up Bristol Harbour incorporated as a Community Interest Company. From April 2020 Chloe will be running an education programme in association with some local schools. Our events take place every third Sunday of the month in the afternoon. We collect litter into categories with litter picking kits loaned to us by Bristol Waste. We can currently recycle plastics and metals, cardboard and glass. The Harbour Office takes all the collected rubbish to Bristol Waste for sorting. Anyone can come along, it lasts for a couple of hours and children are welcome so long as they are supervised. We're on Facebook and have a website: www.cleanupbristolharbour.weebly.com.
