About Cleobury Community Hub
Cleobury Community Hub began as St Mary’s Youth Project (SMYP), an initiative launched by St Mary's Church in 2000 to support young people in the local community. By 2010, SMYP evolved with the appointment of its first youth worker, aiming to address the needs of disenfranchised youth. Initially funded by the church, the project received ongoing support from various local charities and funders as it expanded. In November 2019, SMYP transitioned into a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), marking the start of a new chapter. This shift was accompanied by a broadened vision that extended beyond youth to engage people of all ages. Responding to growing requests from local schools to assist disengaged children, SMYP developed the "Active Education" programme, focusing on working with both children and their families. This holistic approach underscored the need for family involvement in creating lasting change for young people. The Hub concept emerged through collaboration with young people during the Cleobury Neighbourhood Plan project. Together, they envisioned a space that catered to the needs of the entire community. With support from local fundraising efforts, the first phase of the hub opened, featuring a café, soft play area, bouldering wall (Climb61), and a meeting hall. This space quickly became a focal point for a diverse range of community activities. Cleobury Community Hub has become a "third space" for many - a place distinct from home (first space) and work or school (second space). Open four days a week, the hub attracts a wide range of visitors, from parents climbing with their children to older adults gathering for coffee. The facility's central location in Cleobury Mortimer has helped solidify its role as a vital community resource. On July 31, 2023, the organisation rebranded as Cleobury Community Hub to better reflect its mission of serving the entire community, highlighting its growth and commitment to foster connections across generations.
