360 Feedback (also known as multi-rater feedback/peer review) is a questionnaire-based tool that measures the self-perceptions of a leader or manager (known as the participant) and compares them to the perceptions of a group of colleagues (raters) that work around that participant. The questions are based around clusters of behaviours generally associated with strong leadership or management capability. The questionnaire process results in a report that uses graphs and written comments to compare these perceptions. One of the principal outcomes of 360 feedback is an endorsement of key strengths that the participant is displaying, which is a well-received and uplifting affirmation of their leadership or management capability. As well, there may be feedback around some behaviours that colleagues wish the participant could do differently.
