About Closing the Gap Year

Closing the Gap Year is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the vision to see a world where all youth and young adults have access to resources and are encouraged to reach their full potential. Our work focuses on changing the narrative of African American youth and young adults in the District of Columbia who face a disproportionate greater risk of lost potential due to higher rates of disconnection from work and school. Our mission is to champion disconnected African American youth and young adults to discover their interests and talents and to live out their potential. In our 15-week faith-based program, we offer youth and young adults the opportunity to increase their social capital by combining elements from traditional Gap Year Programs with the creation of meaningful relationships and access to resources and opportunities.
