About Clothes for Kids (Champaign, IL)

Our district's schools have a high amount of low-income families. With rising costs of...everything and how quickly children grow out of things, we know there are families that are unable to adequately dress their children for the seasons. Some students come to school in the same clothing daily, and we want all students to feel comfortable and confident. What started as a boots/coats drive in one school has grown it into something quite amazing. It's not just a coat drive; in 2024 students went home with free coats, boots, 1-2 giant bags of outfits, socks, and underwear. Outside of the event, our school social worker reached out to ask for additional clothing as needs arose. We decided to tap into that piece and formally create an organization to support not just our school's social worker, but others in our district too. Social workers identify children that need some extra resources, we fill that "order" and deliver right to the school. Any time of year. The hope is to grow shopping days at other schools too, but so far we are thrilled to have launched with social workers May 2025 and already have 3 schools that have reached out for clothing bundles. Can't wait to help even more back-to school! Until then, we're working on building out our infrastructure, inventory, documents, and funding.
