Coburn Ventures serves a limited group of clients on matters of investing around the globe in technology and other fields. We work in areas where technology may generate a dramatic shift in an industry such as retail or global healthcare. We work with CIOs, Portfolio Managers and Analysts. As such, the relationships are customized to each client’s purposes. Our philosophy is that successful investment in the areas we focus on is dramatically assisted by a deep understanding of patterns of monumental change. This work on change is at the foundation of the work we do in our bottom up research process. As a group we examine (1) monumental shifts across technology and other businesses, (2) the product and services substantively impacted by such shifts, (3) the companies that will develop or lose an unfair sustainable competitive advantage inside these product and service areas, and (4) the operating leverage and valuation leverage in those businesses and stocks. We are able to do this well because of four main factors: our philosophy of specifically looking at monumental change, our domain expertise - grown from over 20 years examining and investing in the tech, telecom, media and internet and other areas, our deep commitment to rich business analysis, and a large group of relationships we have developed in the spirit of a community. Our team deeply believes that well thought processes and communication in work and investment make a dramatic difference in effectiveness.
