About Cochrane & Area Humane Society

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society (CAHS) is a highly respected animal welfare organization that has been providing forever homes to abandoned and stray animals since March 1998. Homeless animals receive food, shelter, medical care, spay/neuter surgery, permanent identification and the chance for adoption into a new home and lost pets are reunited with their guardians. Along with helping animals in the shelter, we offer many programs to support the communities we service, including an animal food bank program for the people in the Town of Cochrane and the Stoney Nation, and a low cost spay and neuter program for pets on the Stoney Nation. Our Rural Rescue and Support Program assists rural communities with their animal welfare needs and supports other animal rescue organizations. Our Pet Safe and Emergency Boarding programs help families or individuals in crisis by providing free pet boarding services for those fleeing domestic violence or recovering from a life altering event. Children and youth take part in humane education programs, including Pajama Parties, birthday parties, tours and school presentations. The CAHS offers an extensive range of dog training classes, working with families and their dogs in everything from puppy classes to agility. Each year thousands of people call or come through our doors to surrender, adopt, claim lost pets, volunteer, seek advice, training or assistance, utilize our resource centre, and attend humane education programs.
