Cognatus is a specialized Research and Development (R&D) firm focused on the design, creation, and evolvement of innovative modeling and simulation solutions, grounded in formal methods and machine-interpretable semantic knowledge constructs ensuring reuse, semantic clarity, and traceability across the Commercial, Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence communities. Cognatus has applied these revolutionary capabilities to the simulation and execution of physics-integrated Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and end-to-end Digital Engineering through the use of ontological knowledge constructs to achieve a truly responsive Digital Twin. Cognatus possesses extensive aerospace and defense experience, allowing for the modeling, simulation, and analysis of complex scenarios utilizing these novel solutions. Specifically, Cognatus is dedicated to the evolvement of formal human/machine interpretable descriptive languages, capable of enabling enhanced human expressiveness, thus providing a formal integration point for external tool orchestration, and the development of software frameworks, focused on direct machine execution of such languages and the co-simulation of the orchestrated tools. These formal methods are being applied to progress existing disciplines from a document-based approach to a model-based philosophy, while allowing for the direct integration and co-simulation of existing artifacts (data, models, and tools). Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model-based Intelligence (MBI) are example areas where Cognatus is evolving these disciplines and moving them to a higher level.
