About Collins Design & Build & Project Management Limited
The business was started in 1967 when Herbert Collins left Ravenhills to trade in Trailers and Agricultural Machinery from a small shed built by Phil Collins when he was 18. The business grew and soon Phil began constructing Steel Framed Agricultural buildings for local farmers. The continued expansion from that small Orchard in Pontrilas saw more land purchased from Kentchurch Estate and the 6 acre site now known as Westwood Industrial Estate developed to what it is today. Herbert’s other son John developed the Agricultural Business separate from the Construction Business when Collins Engineering and Collins Services were formed in 1987. Collins Engineering were involved in the manufacture of Agricultural Trailers but sold that business in 1989. They also ran a motorsport preparation business which involved a contract for Toyota, the UK importers and winning the British Open Rally Championship in 1988 and 89. This followed with work in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Middle East. On the 1st April 2009, Collins Engineering undertook a name change to better describe the activities it undertakes today. After much consideration the name Collins Design and Build was agreed upon. Since the days of the trailer and motorsport preparation business Collins Design and Build have concentrated more on Industrial, Commercial, and Agricultural Steel Framed Buildings along with Property Development. The purchase of the Old Whitestone Tile Works in Herefordshire and then several parcels of adjacent land gave rise to significant development both in the refurbishment of the old buildings for rental and selling some parcels off for new buildings which now make up this significant business park. Out of the many developments which Collins Design & Build have purchased, designed, and built, the development of The Old Victoria Eye Hospital in Hereford has turned out to be one of the most prestigious projects undertaken.
