Vision: We envision a future where Black and Latinx technologists are at the forefront of innovation. ColorStack at The University of Florida exists to address the immense lack of diverse students who identify as Black, Latinx, or Native American in the computer science (CS) major at The University of Florida. Today, Black employees make up 13% of the workforce but only 4% of tech workers. While Hispanic workers make up 17% of the workforce, they hold just 8% of STEM jobs. The biggest tech companies report a similar gap. ColorStack aims to address this alarming proportion that is not only present in the computing industry but also at the University of Florida, as well as, universities and colleges across the country by doing the following - Creating a safe space for students of color pursuing computer science to pursue their academic and professional aspirations in the field of computing. - Ensuring each student is equipped with the resources and overall environment necessary to persist through the computer science major. - Leveraging ColorStack’s national relationships with industry professionals and recruiting teams to best position our students for success in finding a career for themselves in the technological industry. We strive to increase the overall entrance, retention, and success of Black, LatinX, and Native American college students pursuing computer science at The University of Florida.
