About Coming Home
The Coming Home Project exists to radically reimagine what reintegration looks like for women impacted by the criminal justice system. Founded by Francesca Barker-Mills - a qualified educator, trauma-informed practitioner, and woman with lived experience of prison, Coming Home is built on one simple but powerful truth - you are not the worst thing you’ve ever done. Born from a prison cell and a promise to do things differently, the project began as a small peer support initiative. Today, it has evolved into a holistic reintegration programme that supports women returning home from custody or serving community sentences to build stable, independent lives - with confidence, dignity, and purpose. What We Offer 4-Day Intensive Workshop Programme Delivered in aspirational, corporate spaces - never in the sterile, punitive environments too many women are used to. Our workshops cover: Digital literacy and cleaning up your digital footprint Employability and criminal disclosure Emotional and financial resilience Turning lived experience into leadership Peer Support & Mentorship Every woman who joins us is part of a long-term sisterhood, including a thriving WhatsApp network, post-programme check-ins, and access to mentors with lived experience. Pathways to Employment We partner with employers committed to fair chances - offering access to real, sustainable jobs. Travel Bursaries We remove financial barriers to participation with travel support, because no one should miss out on opportunity due to a bus fare. Access to Devices & Data SIMs Digital inclusion is key to independence. We provide mobile and laptop devices on loan to participants* and free data SIMs to ensure every woman can stay connected, apply for jobs, and access support services. Advocacy & System Change We work alongside statutory services, VCSEs, and employers to challenge stigma and embed lived experience into policy, practice, and leadership.
