About Common Wheel
Common Wheel supports people with mental illness by providing meaningful activities. We have 4 projects: bikes, music, visual arts and climbing. At our bike project, we run Build Your Own Bike courses where our bike engineers teach participants how to strip an old bike and rebuild it into one they keep and ride away at the end. Our workshops are also open to the public where we do repairs and sales of bikes. The workshops are run by our engineers who are assisted by our volunteers, all of whom have taken part in our Build Your Own Bike course. At our music project, we run participatory music workshops for people in hospital wards, care homes and from the local community. At our visual arts project, participants work with an artist to design and produce pieces of visual art which are then showcased at events across Glasgow. At our climbing project, participants learn from professional instructors how to boulder and rope climb whilst supported by Common Wheel staff and volunteers. All of our projects aim to improve mental wellbeing, increase skills, reduce isolation, and challenge stigma.
