About Commonwealth School
A co-ed independent day school in Boston, Massachusetts, Commonwealth is known for its intense intellectual energy and vibrant arts within a welcoming and supportive community of teachers and students. Located within a pair of adjoining brownstones in Boston's Back Bay, the school makes the most of its gracious urban setting. Students volunteer and take internships with community service agencies, government, and arts organizations. The Boston Public Library and the cultural richness of the city as a whole provide unique resources for research and learning, especially through the school's one-of-a-kind City of Boston course. Twice a year the entire school decamps to a lakeside camp in Maine for a long weekend of activities, cooking (and cleaning up), and fun. Known as "Hancock," these weekends knot the school into a strong and cohesive whole, building and reinforcing friendships that permeate school life and extend well beyond graduation. Commonwealth graduates are extremely well-prepared for college, and our seniors are admitted to the nation's most prestigious colleges and universities at roughly three times the national average.
