About Communities In Schools of Texas
Communities In Schools of Texas surrounds students with a community of support to ensure they stay in school and graduate with a plan to succeed in life. CIS-TX believes all students can thrive in school if they have what they need to focus and learn. That’s why we remove all barriers that prevent student success in the classroom. In partnership with the local school districts, we provide daily school-based interventions to students in grades K–12 to address academic challenges, truancy, behavioral issues, social service needs, mental health struggles, and more to keep kids in school. 74% of our students are from low-income families. Our unique model positions site coordinators inside schools to mentor and support the most vulnerable students on campus. Site coordinators assess each student’s needs, whether physical, mental, or emotional, and provide resources to help them succeed in the classroom and in life. Our program model includes 3 tiers of service: school wide programming (Tier 1), small group focused learning (Tier 2), and individual case management (Tier 3). CIS-TX partners with local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers, mental health counselors, and volunteers to resource students. Whether it is food, school supplies, health care, mental health counseling, academic assistance or a positive role model, CIS-TX is here to help. Last school year, CIS-TX provided one on one case managed support for 122,787 students inside 1447 campuses and saw measurable, high-impact improvement with those students: 99% stayed in school, 98% were promoted, 98% graduated, 91% demonstrated academic improvement, 90% saw behavioral improvement, and 76% improved their attendance in school.
