About Community Cares KC

The Community Cares KC Coalition centers neighborhood leaders from Kansas City’s 3rd and 5th Council Districts, alongside local incremental developers, to guide our work. These leaders bring lived experience with the social conditions contributing to lower life expectancy in their communities—poor housing, deferred infrastructure, vacant lots, and the legacy of redlining and systemic racism. Our coalition’s goals are to: -Expand quality infill housing development -Grow funding and workforce for housing rehabilitation and stabilization -Strengthen small local developers and nonprofit community development organizations Through this work, we aim to: -Create generational wealth opportunities -Improve family health and longevity through affordable, stable housing -Build community safety and stability through infill development -Ensure children have consistent education and social networks -Drive systemic change addressing racial discrimination and inequities in housing Pat Jordan and Christina Hoxie have co-led the coalition since January 2024, merging with the Community Leaders group in Fall 2024 to center neighborhood voices. Together, we convene stakeholders—nonprofit CDCs, city Land Banks, MARC, and others—around shared questions: What does equitable access to quality housing look like? and How can partners align strategies and resources to deliver housing that fosters wealth, stability, and equity in under-invested communities?
