About Community Cycleworks
Founded in 2012, Community Cycleworks (CIC) is a not for profit organisation that runs engaging, hands on bike projects to support riders. We are a youth focused organisation on a mission. 'We want a world in which all young people have access to a bike, the skills to repair them, and the opportunities to cycle safely' We do this through varied, fun, practical activities that reach and support riders of all ages. Our key projects: - School Fix-a-Bike workshops (TM) - Teaching up to 60 students in a day. Fast paced. Hands on. Fun. Teaching basic bike repair skills and exploring and promoting cycling as a mode of transport. - Bikefix sessions - Workshop based repair workshops where we aim to put the tools in the riders hands and empower them to fix their own bikes. -Bikefix Outreach - As above with a blend of Dr bike, and hands-on repairs, in community spaces. - Girls Bike 2 - Girls and non-binary cycling group. London - Snodland Bike Club - Weekly community bike club for young people. Based at the Snodland Pump Track, Kent. A positive youth project with bikes as the medium for engagement. Building community and activating the space. - Snodland Riders Community Cycle Club - An adult social ride group for newer or returning cyclists. For people who just enjoy a ride and chats. No lycra necessary. The problems we are addressing: 63% of our school course attendees have NEVER attempted to fix a bike before *50% of journeys in cities and towns to be cycled by 2030...yet many people do not know how to fix basic problems on a bike. (*UK Governments 'Gear Change' Policy) Cycling can often be nicer and more fun! Sustainable travel discussions don't seem to address this point. A lack of understanding of the wider benefits of cycling for individuals and wider society. These projects are changing mindsets towards cycling, improving confidence to repair and increasing the levels of cycling among our participants. Thanks for reading. Ride and find the freedom.
