About Community Engagement

At Community Engagement, we believe that supporting artists and community-engaged art projects is critical to fostering a vibrant, more connected society. Since the inception of our non-profit organization in 2015, Community Engagement has awarded $772,402 in grants to artists and creatives, and $460,942 in grants for community programming. Our programs have positively impacted more than 14,000 individuals in eight low-income areas in three states. In 2019, we were awarded the “Outstanding Contribution to the Arts” by the City of Santa Ana, California in recognition of our efforts. Our primary initiatives include: • Artists and Creatives Grants - provides financial support to those making or presenting creative work relating to or encouraging community engagement. • Creatives-in-Residence Program - broadens the traditional definition of community building and artist residencies. • Akumal Festival Arts and Culture Residency - sends artists to the annual Akumal Arts Festival in Mexico to paint murals, lead workshops, and engage with the local community.
