About Community Garden Kitchen of Collin County

The Community Garden Kitchen Project began when a group of citizens, educators and business professionals, concerned about hunger in our community, joined together to raise funds to build a restaurant to serve people struggling with food insecurity. The new debt-free stand alone building includes a commercial kitchen, an 118 seat dining hall, office and storage area. There is a quarter acre garden adjacent to the restaurant where vegetables, herbs and fruit is grown to be used in the daily meals. There are two full time employees and one part time kitchen assistant, all other duties are performed by one of over 1,000 volunteers. Since opening in June of 2022, over 78,000 meals have been served. No paperwork or ID is required to receive a meal. The goal of the staff and volunteers is to achieve "dining with dignity" for every guest. There is also a sack lunch program for volunteer groups to come prepare a meal for individuals living on the streets and day laborers. Community Garden Kitchen is an important complement to other services providing food to fill the needs in our area. Many people experiencing hunger do not have the equipment or opportunity to prepare food. Inviting and involving the entire faith, public and private communities to provide the funding for continuing the operation is essential in making sure that no one in the community suffers the fear of food insecurity.
