About Community Matters Cincinnati
Organization Mission Community Matters exists to create a thriving and more just community by removing barriers to opportunity. Our organization primarily partners with approximately 1,500 residents from the Lower Price Hill neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. Of these neighbors, more than 87% of families and 93% of children are experiencing the impacts of geographic isolation, prolonged economic disinvestment, and systemic poverty. Our Model Founded in 2014, Community Matters was created from the will of the Lower Price Hill community to address the overwhelming disparity in access to opportunities for our residents. To build a more just, thriving community, Community Matters goes beyond the traditional nonprofit social service model by forming partnerships with our neighbors instead of viewing them only as clients to be provided a service. Community Matters believes that these neighbors are experts in the needs and strengths of our community and should be the primary voice advocating for community needs and leading community initiatives. Community Matters takes a comprehensive approach to this community development work by focusing on four core areas: 1) Family Sustainability, all families have the resources to achieve their goals; 2) Education Pathways, adult learners have the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills; 3) Resident Leadership, residents spearhead community development and hold power in community institutions; and 4) Thriving Community, Lower Price Hill is an affordable and vibrant place to live.
