About Community Montessori School Lexington, KY
and principles of education developed by Dr. Maria Montessori that still find support in recent advances in the science of how children learn. While originating in the early 20th century, the Montessori approach facilitates learning in the modern sciences, mathematics, language skills, and constructive social interaction. CERTIFICATIONS As a non-sectarian school, we welcome children of every race, color, religion, ethnicity and national origin. Our school is approved and certified by the Kentucky Department of Education, as well as by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). This means we have achieved, and are held to, the highest standards of excellence with regard to the Montessori philosophy and methods. Our curriculum also maintains state standards established by the State of Kentucky and Kentucky Non-Public Schools Commission, Inc. Maria Montessori believed that all education should be directly linked to the land. She saw the child as a living, growing, integrated organism moving through different periods of development. This revelation is what guides the mission of CMS/MMSK as we embrace the development of programs for the child from Infancy to Adolescence that tie learning to the natural environment. Throughout the child’s development it is essential that the child bond with the natural world and fall in love with it. The natural world is critical to child development, as we are organic beings guided by nature. Thus, CMS/ MMSK students thrive from immersion in land-based learning on our 13 acre certified wildlife preserve!
