About Community Renewal International Capital Area
About Us: Community Renewal International (CRI) is committed to transforming communities by addressing the root cause of societal decline: fractured relationships. Founded in Shreveport, LA, in 1994, CRI has expanded its mission to the Greater Washington Capital Area, where we focus on fostering a connected and caring community. Our Mission in the Capital Area: 1. Expand the We Care Team across the Capital Area and beyond to grow a global network of individuals dedicated to intentional care. 2. Establish a strategic model for relational systemic change that serves as a transformative example of communal life for the nation and the world. Our Approach: At CRI, we believe that society is defined by the relationships between people. Inspired by historian Arnold Toynbee’s insight that a society is a “system of relationships between human beings,” CRI Founder Mack McCarter developed a systematic approach to reverse societal decline by mending these relationships. The We Care Team is at the heart of this approach—a movement where individuals commit to building a connected, caring world. Our Model in Action: The Capital Area chapter implements CRI’s mission through a three-pronged strategy that renews relationships, strengthens neighborhood connections, and enhances community engagement: 1. We Care Neighbors – Building strong, supportive connections among residents. 2. We Care Partners – Collaborating with organizations and businesses to support community growth. 3. We Care Friendship House – Providing spaces for intentional care and meaningful friendships in challenged neighborhoods. Together, these strategies serve as a delivery system for intentional, directed care, fostering communities that are united and resilient. By transforming how we relate to one another, we create the foundation for communities that can respond creatively and collaboratively to local and global challenges.
