About Compass Ecospatial
Compass Ecospatial, LLC (“Compass”) is a woman-owned and managed small business, locally based out of Ridgefield, Washington providing services in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, and Hawaii. Compass provides ecological, geospatial and geodesign planning and design consulting services, specializing in the field of ecosystem restoration and conservation, including compensatory mitigation and voluntary enhancement approaches. Our mission is to develop science-based, data-driven, pragmatic planning and design solutions that balance ecological integrity with the realities of project implementation. At Compass, we integrate applied ecology, hydrologic assessment and geospatial analysis through a geodesign approach adapted to support the restoration of natural systems while addressing infrastructure challenges and stakeholder priorities. Our custom and natural system-based geodesign planning and design approach is collaborative, iterative, interdisciplinary, stakeholder and partner inclusive, and holistic; informed by contextual data, uniting biological science and natural process-based design. Our expertise lies in ecology/biology outcome-centric habitat restoration planning and geodesign integrated with high-resolution field and remote sensing data collection and analysis, united in a GIS platform, informed by consultation and collaboration with Indigenous Knowledge holders, and partner and stakeholder engagement, resulting in ecosystem-scale restoration design and meaningful compensatory mitigation. We have found that our approach, rooted in site-specific, high-resolution contextual data, results in more holistic and process-based designs that avoid forcing project designs on the landscape that are a mismatch with the place or the biological/ecological objectives.
