About Compassion & Choices of New York

Compassion & Choices of New York provides free informa¬tion, counseling, support, and advocacy services to terminally ill patients and their families and those planning for the end of their lives. Our primary goal is to facilitate end-of-life choices that reflect the values and wishes of the dying person. We press for improved state-of-the-art pain and palliative care; promote the use and honoring of ad¬vance medical directives; and affirm the right of decisionally capable, terminally ill persons to receive infor-mation about controlling the circum¬stances and timing of their deaths. We refer our patients to hospices and seek referrals from hospices. We assist people in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. We work to improve care and expand choice at the end of life by initiating legislation and educating the public, health care professionals, seniors, students, etc and by using the media.
