About Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)
The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council is the UK's voluntary regulator for complementary health practitioners. We hold an Accredited Register of qualified and insured complementary health practitioners across the UK, which allows the public to choose with confidence. CNHC registers practitioners from 18 professions: Alexander Technique teaching, Aromatherapy, Bowen Therapy, Colon Hydrotherapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Healing, Hypnotherapy, Kinesiology, Massage Therapy, Microsystems Acupuncture, Naturopathy, Nutritional Therapy, Reflexology, Reiki, Shiatsu, Sports Massage, Sports Therapy, Yoga Therapy. CNHC was established with Government support in 2008, with the sole purpose of protecting the public. CNHC's register is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA), an independent body accountable to Parliament. We set the standards that practitioners must meet to join and remain on the register. All CNHC registrants have agreed to be bound by the highest standards of conduct, and all are professionally trained and fully insured to practise. Should we receive a complaint about alleged breaches of our Code of Conduct, Ethics and Performance, we investigate it and we impose disciplinary sanctions that mirror those of the statutory healthcare regulators. We make the case to government and a wide range of organisations for the use of complementary healthcare to enhance the public's health and wellbeing. We also seek to influence policy wherever possible to increase access to the disciplines we register.
