About Composite Films
Composite Films is a production studio founded in 2013 by Samuel François-Steininger that specializes in the colourisation and restoration of film and archive footage, the production of animation films and the creation of new documentary content. In the space of four years, the studio has become a major player in the archive footage colourisation business. We have developed our unique expertise by combining cutting-edge technology, artistic design and in-depth historical research. Our latest work includes America in Color, a colorized series about American history between the 1920s and the 1960s. We have also restored and colourised footage for Raoul Peck’s I’m not your Negro, which went on to win several prizes at various Film Festivals and was nominated at the 89th Academy Awards for Best Documentary. And Maria by Callas by Tom Volf, an amazing feature documentary that was selected at TIFF and was released in theaters in more than 30 countries. At the same time, Composite Films has also produced To Build a Fire. This animated short film has been screened at more than 50 festivals and has won various awards, including Grand Prize Winner Best Animated Short Film at Flickers Rhode Island 2016, which qualified the film for the Oscars. The film is still touring prestigious festivals around the world, and was broadcasted on France 2. In 2019, we produced and co-produced 2 live action short films: - Sous la Peau directed by Julien Mignot, starring Victoire du Bois, Damien Bonnard and Mathieu Amalric, shot in 35mm film. - Safety directed by Fabrice Joubert, starring Rob Nagle, Gatlin and Garrison Griffith, longlisted for the 2020 Academy Awards. A lot of projects are in development at the moment, including live action, documentary and animation short and feature films.
