Knowledge and experience are the primary goals. There’s benefit in knowing how to clear a jam, stuff sausage, roll cast and put “red in the shed”, even if we never need to. The more tricks we learn, the more competent and self-reliant we become. A secondary goal is to meet people. If you’re crazy enough to get up before the rooster crows, freeze your butt off, drag dead weight for miles, or sit in the rain for hours on end, we understand each other.
