About Connor's House
Connor’s House was founded in 2009 in memory of Connor Scott Millard, a spunky 8 year old boy with significant medical and developmental challenges. Connor’s strong desire to live a normal life caused all involved in his care to push the envelope of treatment in order to allow him to live at home as much as he could, and as fully as his health allowed. There are currently two million children in the U.S. who suffer from life-shortening illnesses, four hundred thousand of whom require care 24 hours a day. 12,000 children requiring constant care live in New Jersey. Most of their families are overwhelmed because there are few, if any, care and support services readily accessible to desperately ill children outside of a strict hospital setting. Connor's House currently supports 65 families with peer-to-peer counseling, and is working towards building its first Children's Respite Home. The future Connor’s House facilities will provide families of children with life-threatening illnesses with palliative, respite and end-of-life care in a friendly, home-like environment. Children will stay and rest for short periods of time – generally two days to two weeks – and interact with other kids and families sharing similar experiences. While their child is in Connor’s House’s care, parents can take the opportunity to attend to other family, work and personal needs while Connor’s House’s staff manages the skilled nursing, cleaning, cooking and other needs of their loved child..
