Conquest Centre is a Taunton based charity that offers professionally facilitated activities involving animals and the great outdoors for people of all ages and abilities in a friendly and non- judgemental setting in the wonderful Somerset countryside. The centre is based on a 200-acre farm in Norton Fitzwarren and facilities include stable yard, indoor and outdoor working and study areas, riding arenas, woodland trail, forest school, sensory room, art room, playpark with accessible equipment, cafe and changing places washroom. Children come from all walks of life and some as young as 3 years old. Practitioners are trained to offer trauma informed support and to be emotionally available adults which means the charity can support children with the most complex multiple conditions in a stimulating, healthy and fun environment. The student programme offers young people who have been excluded or at risk of being excluded from school fun and healthy ways to get more out of life and learning. By engaging with animal and nature-based experiential learning young people can join a curriculum to achieve a qualification from British Horse Society or Riding for Disabled. Sessions can be either one-to-one or in groups and are facilitated by mentors with lived experience and understanding of highly individual needs. The special therapy animals include horses, goats, donkeys, chickens, dogs and sheep and they all have their role to play in the activity programs. For adults there is an extensive range of animal and nature assisted activities, equine assisted therapy and counselling. There are also many different volunteering opportunities for individuals who enjoy working with animals and nature and many of our clients go on to become members of our invaluable volunteering team.
