Conservation Alpha is working to change how conservation is valued, to professionalize the sector by driving accountability through a focus on results, and a shift towards maximizing high-level impact. Conservation Alpha derives its name from the investment term, alpha, a measure of investment performance above the market value. Conservation needs to professionalize to demonstrate effectiveness in its ability to deliver, and to address the ever-increasing shortfall in funds required to tackle the greatest conservation problems. Conservation alpha works with selected partners to adopt private-sector business principles, increase cost efficiencies, and focus on conservation outcomes, driving evolution towards a results-based industry. Conservation Alpha has been appointed as the Performance Manager for the Rhino Impact Investment Project (www.rhinoimpact.com), working together with the Finance Manager to create a conservation outcomes-based financing mechanism to achieve rhino impact through increasing management effectiveness at key rhino sites in Africa.
