About COPE Disaster Champions

COPE Disaster Champions is dedicated to empowering youth with essential Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) tools in a world facing rising climate-induced hazards. COPE was created in 2015 by Author Martha Keswick, Illustrator Mariko Jesse and Disaster Risk Reduction Expert Dr Timothy Sim. COPE is a series of free, illustrated storybooks designed to increase the disaster resilience of children globally. Covering various hazards, from floods to earthquakes and wildfires to cyclones, our books provide relatable stories and practical preparedness tools in an engaging and easy-to-understand format. According to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, children play a crucial role in strengthening community resilience. Our series aligns with this vision, providing educational material that empowers children worldwide. COPE is supported by leading organizations such as the World Meteorological Organization, UNICEF, and UNDRR, and it has reached 3 million children in 35 countries. It is available in 18 languages. COPE integrates perspectives on disabilities and children's rights, ensuring inclusivity and awareness for all vulnerable community members, including older people and pets. Our ongoing partnership with the University of Brasilia incorporates LSB sign language, reflecting our commitment to accessibility.
