About Copper Coast Geopark

The Copper Coast Geopark is a 25 kilometre stretch of coastline from Tramore to Dungarvan. Internationally recognised and holding UNESCO Geopark status for the heritage, unique geological formations and rugged coastline with its undisturbed and raw beauty. Established in 2001 by the local community and experts in geology and heritage with the aim of promoting sustainable tourism, the Copper Coast Geopark has achieved much success. We are the only Global Geopark in Europe managed by volunteers and while we may be the smallest Geopark in the world, we pride ourselves on being the friendliest. The purpose of a Geopark is to explore, develop and celebrate the links between geological, natural, cultural and intangible heritage assets. The Geopark has much to offer visitors who want to reconnect with nature and with themselves. There are hidden coves and soft, golden beaches with undisturbed beauty to explore. We invite our visitors to begin their discovery at the Copper Coast Global Geopark Visitor Centre where our friendly staff are ready with a big welcome to the Geological and Mining Heritage Exhibition which is suitable for all ages and abilities. Visitors of all ages can enjoy the award winning films and interactive models that recreate the industry, dangerous working conditions and brings to life the lives of the miners. There are a range of trails and activities that celebrate and explore the unique Sense of Place of Waterford's Copper Coast Geopark, suitable for families, sight seekers, culture enthusiasts and adventurers.
