About CORE Educational Services

Started in 2005, CORE Educational Services (CORE), serves high need, low income, underserved high school students in Los Angeles. CORE’s mission is to increase and broaden educational opportunities for older, at-risk youth in out-of-school time through strategic partnerships with non-profit and for profit organizations as well as schools and government agencies. However, CORE is NOT your typical after-school, arts and crafts, “holding pen” babysitting service for high schoolers. CORE’s programs utilize intriguing activities such as rock climbing and music production in small group settings to engage students in innovative programming that develops their self-confidence, leadership skills, goal setting and public speaking ability. This is all done through programs that mirror successful employment including interviews, applications, set hours and specific responsibilities. Our highly specialized programs provide participants with the skills and experiences they need to get employed NOW and accepted to an institution of higher education. For example, through our Music Production Academy, participants learn the skills of music production AND get hands on experience practicing their skills at events, attend conferences and meet industry professionals. As a result of their participation, all students walk away with completed resumes, job experience and a connection to an industry insider.
