A New Tool for Lawyers Corpus linguistics is the study of language by analyzing samples of natural, real-world examples in large databases of text, called corpora. Analyzing big data can help lawyers and judges determine issues such as the ordinary or plain meaning of words, the ambiguity of a statutory term, whether a term has a specialized meaning or whether a trademark has become genericized. Our firm consists of a professor of linguistics, corpora experts, and a lawyer with circuit court and supreme court experience to provide the expertise on both linguistics and questions of law in order to use this tool to answer these questions and others.
