About Covalence
Founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 2001, Covalence evaluates companies on environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria with particular expertise in media analysis and social issues. We offer ESG ratings and news data covering 15,000 securities to investors, academics, and non-profits. Covalence's expertise is useful for investment management, portfolio analysis, ESG news monitoring, academic research, and training. Our main differentiators are: pioneer, independent ESG rating agency; multi-sources ESG scoring system; dynamic, granular news data documenting controversies, good practices and evolving social issues; in-house AI capacities since 2014; greenwashing risk indicator; SDG mapping; expertise on social and political issues such as human rights, peace and democracy. To produce ratings we compare ESG data publicly reported by companies (disclosure) to online narrative content reflecting the perception of stakeholders such as the media and NGOs (reputation). Covalence is a signatory of the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), a founding member of the European Association of Sustainability Rating Agencies, an institutional partner of Sustainable Finance Geneva (SFG), a founding member of Swiss Sustainable Finance, and a member of the Chamber of Social and Solidarity Economy in Geneva APRÈS-GE. Since 2001 Covalence has received the following awards and recognitions: • Eagle Alpha’s ESG Data Hackathon Winner 2021 • Best Pedagogical Innovation at the FIR-PRI Finance & Sustainability Awards 2019 • 10 finance innovations — Geneva, the sustainable finance laboratory (2014) • Ethisphere 2009's 100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics • Finalist Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2005 Switzerland • Prix cantonal du développement durable 2004 (Genève)
