In the high mountains of Utah, you'll find peculiar and rare pine trees. The tops look as you'd imagine, but their trunks are bizarre. Near the ground, these trees grow with right angles before straightening out and climbing for light like their forest neighbors. What's causes this? Resilience through intense pressure. As saplings, these trees were buried deep beneath massive loads of snow. The weight permanently altered the trees' development trajectory, forcing the first right angle bend to their trunks. It would be easy to believe these trees had been dealt an unfair hand and that, damaged beyond saving, they would wither and die. However, more impressive than the first bend is the second. Once the snow lifts, the trees miraculously struggle to again reach upward toward life-giving sunlight. Those that make it are left with an unmistakable scar that sets them apart from the trees that did not undergo the same battle for survival. However, there is no difference in growth potential of the two types of tree. The only difference is that the crooked pines have earned their place and have a story to tell. The crooked pine is a beautiful symbol of resilience. We humans are much the same. Those who get caught in challenging circumstances and survive hardship, can choose to emerge better, wiser, and more interesting on the other side. Their scars are badges of merit, proof that they've overcome. Crooked Pine Media aims to share stories, tactics, and encouragement to forge resilience and self-reliance in spite of obstacles and to learn how to laugh and create happiness regardless of what's going on.
