About Crossculture Solutions
I'm Canadian. I was an international student in Taiwan in 1985. In 1986 I had an idea about cross culture that literally changes my. Everything I've done since is influenced by that idea. IN 1987 I became a freelance corporate trainer, consultant, coach, mentor. For over 30 years I've travelled to four continents helping Westerners and other cultures communicate, work together ands build relationships. I've helped hundreds of people adapt to and succeed in Western society. I never forgot how hard and confusing it was as an international student so instead of retiring I decided to share my knowledge with a younger audience. My target market are international students in Western schools, but it works for anyone. My way to pay it forward. I created a unique new course based on micro-learning: "Wearing Western Glasses: Learn to Think Like Westerners." Students learn where Western culture came from, our cultural goal and how striving for that goal affects and shapes all parts of Western culture. Understanding the "why" is the key to success. Simply instructing international students to change cultural habits of a lifetime rarely succeeds if the students don't know why Westerners want them to make that change. Students need to understand why Westerners think and act as they do. I created WWG to equip them with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities they need to succeed in Western classrooms, offices and social situations. WWG is divided into 36 five-minute micro-lessons with PDF lesson summaries. Students learn where Western culture comes from and what makes someone a Westerner. Lessons include Western core values, how to get or lose "face," what Westerners think about achievement, failure and effort, what initiative is, why ask asking questions is important, What teachers and managers expect from them. learn key functional skills, three examples being speaking to a group, participating in class discussions and how to disagree clearly but politely.
