About Crowne Plaza Porto
On Avenida da Boavista, the financial and business district, the Hotel Crowne Plaza Porto enjoys a privileged location for setting off a discovery of the main touristic attractions in Porto and only 15 minutes away from the international airport Francisco Sá Carneiro, one of the best in Europe. The first hotel to be built in Avenida da Boavista, was built on a ground where only a gas station existed, which resulted in a partnership with Petrogal, Air France and Dicto under the name Hotelgal SA, being initially the name Le Meridien inaugurated on the 16th September, 1984. This was the first hotel to be managed by an international brand in Porto. During more than two decades, this was its official designation until the International group Global Hotels & Resorts decided to create an own brand by integrating a few of their own hotels all over the world. This is how the insignia Tiara Hotels & Resorts arrived to Porto in 2008. At the year that the emblematic hotel of the Avenida da Boavista would celebrate 30 years of history, in 2014, the era of Tiara Porto came to an end, leading to a new brand, recognized in the whole world for its focus on an exquisite service in the business tourism segment – Crowne Plaza Porto, opened officially on the 14th October of 2014 under the management of IHG – Intercontinental Hotels Group, the biggest hotel chain worldwide. Over these 35 years of history, the hotel welcomed several international ersonalities, including monarchical references such as the kings of Sweden, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Lisa Minelli, a Nina Ricci fashion show, among others. Also, the hotel was present in important moments of the country and the city, being for example for two months the official UEFA hotel of the Euro 2004.
