About CSSSA - California State Summer School for the Arts (& Foundation)
The California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) is the premiere pre-professional training program for high-school-age artists in California and beyond with financial aid available to all qualified students. Through a four-week, immersive and rigorous summer program, CSSSA cultivates and nurtures the top arts talent at this crucial point in their development. These talented and motivated students are given the opportunity to work on their craft at the next level, learning from dedicated and experienced teachers and developing their understanding as individuals of their potential for growth as creative artists. CSSSA was formed in 1986 and is led by a Board of Trustees appointed by the state. The CSSSA Foundation provides critical funding and support through scholarships for students with demonstrated need (representing almost 40% of each class), funding for the Guest Artists program, and initiatives to strengthen outreach and increase diversity. In addition, the Foundation provides support for college-access programs, including the Herb Alpert Emerging Young Artist Scholarships, multiple arts college scholarships exclusive to CSSSA alumni, and other financial aid resources. The CSSSA Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization led by a Board of Directors.
