About Culture Lab Africa
Culture Lab Africa looks to design and design-led research as a means of foregrounding the grandeur and extravagant riches of Africa’s cultural heritage. We breathe fresh life into tired and outdated narratives that makes Africans a minority within global design leadership and seek to expand and enrich global understanding of African identity and Africa’s place in the world, at the forefront of design. This understanding, in part, informs our dealings with other nations. Our projects are soft power in action. Culture presented on a global stage can undo preconceived notions and pave the way for mutually beneficial collaboration, diplomacy, and dialogue. Design continues its rapid ascendancy in developed nations around the world- as of 2023, the industry was estimated to be worth approximately $350 billion, and projections indicate a continued compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4-5% over the next five years. According to current global statistics, by 2050, 1 in 4 people will be African. As such, the perspectives of Africans must be acknowledged.
