About Culture Villains
Culture Villains began in a rented studio room located in a storefront academy in Lynchburg, VA. Culture Villains was inspired by owner Travis James’ willingness to develop young talented artists at the start of their music journey. While serving as the President of Bridging The Gap Urban Ministries, Travis helped with the early development of artists Rhomar Jessy, Aklesso, CZAR Josh and producer Killawatts. In 2017 after leaving Bridging The Gap, Travis was inspired to focus on the development of artists through a new record label, Culture Villains. The label would sign its first artists, Big Yae and CZAR Josh shortly after. In the summer of 2017, Culture Villains attained its first success with the release of Big Yae’s single “We Gone Shine” which peaked at #7 on the Hot CHR charts while being recognized by Billboard as one of top radio singles. Kham joined Culture Villains in December of 2018 after being a frequent collaborator with Big Yae and CZAR Josh. Kham and CZAR Josh were schoolmates at Liberty University during this time. Kham built a relationship with the label as he started his musical journey and after months of dialogue he joined the label. Immediately after signing, Kham released ‘Roll The Dice’ which quickly became Kham’s biggest solo single. Currently, Culture Villains is composed of four artists, Kham, Big Yae, KJ Carter and CZAR Josh. In its short time of operation, Culture Villains has released two albums that have charted on iTunes. In 2018, CZAR Josh's For Your Heart EP charted at #120 on the iTunes Hip-Hop charts and their collaborative album Preseason charted at #47 on the iTunes Hip-Hop charts in 2019. What the company lacked in finances and resources, they made up for in passion, work ethic, and a willingness to take risks for the sake of their vision. Culture Villains’ mission is to utilize positive music to inspire others to change the world one act at a time.
