About D.I.C.E.D. Culinary "Diverse Innovation in Culinary Educational Development"

D.I.C.E.D. Culinary known previously as, (The North Shore Culinary Education Society of BC) provides high-quality culinary training through the North Shore Culinary School to homeless, first nations, marginal, transitional and disadvantaged individuals. The 56 week program with practicum is offered tuition-free which is quite astounding when you consider the cost to for this training at other local schools is upwards of $35,000 per student. A true social enterprise, this organization uses proceeds from retail operations, in this case, the Discovery Cafe restaurant, concession kitchen and Culinary Choreography catering, to fund a large social benefit; a sustainable way end to unemployment, homelessness and subsidized housing for the poor. At its core, the intent is to help others, by teaching them to help themselves through the acquisition of life skills and much sought after cooking skills. Students come to the program primarily through referrals from outreach resource centres in the lower Mainland and many go onto promising careers at established Vancouver eateries.
