Psychotherapy starts with telling your personal story to your therapist, who responds with understanding, empathy and insight. In this way a relationship, a collaborative alliance is built. This alliance is the cornerstone of your therapy. From there you may examine various parts of yourself and your relationships as they relate to the problems which brought you to therapy in the first place. Change begins with awareness, insight and, not surprisingly, hard work. All of us at Dallas Therapy Alliance understand people in a way that emphasizes interpersonal relationships, lifetime attachment patterns and the tendency to repeat harmful behaviors even when not wanting to. This way of thinking is called contemporary psychoanalytic theory and therapy. This approach provides an understanding of how we became who we are and a means to become who we want to be. While we start from this psychoanalytic foundation, the approach we take with each individual differs based on his/her needs and problems. We are skilled in many forms of therapy. You and your therapist will collaborate to determine what therapeutic modalities are best suited for you, such as intensive psychoanalytic therapy, couples therapy, reparative attachment therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, to name a few. Dallas Therapy Alliance therapists help adults, couples, families, children and adolescents. We collaborate in many ways. For instance, one therapist may see a child in play therapy and another therapist sees the mother in individual or the family in family therapy.
