About Dance World
Deirdre and Noel Rock opened ‘Charles Stewart Fashion Shoes Ltd’ on Parnell Street in the summer of 1972. Although business was flourishing Noel was constantly exploring new products that would make his business stand out. In 1978 Noel became aware that the ‘Harcourt Shoe Store’ was about to close down. This store specialised in dance shoes for over 40 years, seeing an opportunity Noel contacted the owners and bought their entire stock. A mere six months after the stock had changed hands Noel closed the fashion shoe shop and opened the doors as Dance World. In the late 1980s the television series ‘Fame’ hit the small screen. Due to its popularity dance shot to the forefront of popular culture. Business was going from strength to strength; Noel established that there was a niche market in the dance community that needed to be catered for. In July 1988 The Kirov Ballet performed in Dublin, all members of the ensemble came to shop at Dance World. Following that another highlight for Noel and his staff was when Bolshoi ballet came to shop in store. Considering the success of the flagship store on Parnell Street the Rock’s opened their second branch in Ranelagh in 1988. Today, Dance World has evolved to become one of the leading retail dance brands in Europe with over 45 years experience and dedication to the dance community. Dance World is the destination of choice for dancers and performers in Ireland. The company prides itself on the high level of customer service experienced in store. Our friendly staff are trained with the expertise and knowledge to cater to any dancer’s queries or needs. Although Dance World has continued to grow and develop it has remained a family business, now directed by Noel’s son Stephen.
